Vision & Mission

Professional Ag Marketing was created in 2006 to help advise grain and livestock producers on alternative risk management strategies for their operation.  With markets being so volatile in this day and age, it is vital to your business to control that risk.  Pro Ag’s objective is to help your operation prevent downside that may cause unnecessary risk and also help avoid and react to market fluctuation.

Our goal is to understand our customer’s cost of production and develop a comprehensive risk management strategy for livestock and crop producers, owners and investors.  Our row crop operations also includes a strategy that revolves around the best fit crop insurance plan for your business. Pro Ag strives to bring the most updated and relevant information to our customers that will help them make their day to day decisions.

During the ethanol expansion era, corn prices grew to record prices. Post-ethanol expansion has brought difficulties to many livestock producers.  Mandates, weather, and similar uncontrollable events like this happen all the time. These are the types of risks we face in agriculture world which could make or break an operation.  Risk management is an incredibly important resource that could possibly save a family farm or business, or even a long-standing developed operation.

The Pro Ag Team

Our team consists of five members.  Pat Von Tersch, owner of Professional Ag Marketing, has been in the trading field for 14 years.  Pat also owns a successful pork production operation which gives him perspective to continue to assist other hog producers.

Jeff Hoogendoorn earned a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State in animal science.  Jeff worked with Cargill as a pork consultant before he joined Professional Ag Marketing in 2009.  Along with helping producers manage risk for the past 5 years, Jeff also manages his own successful cattle and row crop operation.

Jordan Reker joined Professional Ag Marketing in 2012 after graduating from SDSU with a bachelor’s degree in Ag Business.  Jordan’s agricultural background is an asset in helping understand customer’s operations.

Kim Arends, a graduate of St. Cloud State University, joined the staff two years ago to help with day to day activities. Kim is no stranger to the world of agriculture as she and her husband are heavily involved in their own farm.

Nick Bork earned a Master's Degree in animal science from NDSU and worked with Standard Nutrition for seven years before joining Pro Ag in 2015.  Nick and his wife, Annie, have five children that are active in their Holstein feeder steer and row-crop operation near Luverne.
   
Mike Fitzgerald graduated from Iowa State with an agriculture business degree and is Pro Ag's branch office contact in Eastern Iowa. Mike will focus on livestock procurement, packer agreements, cash-market negotiaions and risk management strategies. Mike, his wife and two children live in Eastern Iowa.
